a,an/the(관사)를 쓰는경우, 쓰지 않는 경우 총정리

쓸때마다 헷갈리는 a,an/the 관사 붙이기 총 정리.
먼저 개념을 익히고, 외워야할건 문장 통째로 기억하자!


1. a, an을 쓰는 경우

-셀수있는 명사, 가산명사(Countable noun)

-불특정한 것 '하나'를 가르킬 때.
 I need a new car.  -> 특정한 차가 아닌 그냥 새로운 차 한대

-수많은 것들 중 '하나' 
Lauryn is a student.  -> 수많은 학생들 중 하나


2. the를 쓰는 경우

-특정할 수 있는 구체적인 것, '하나'
I bought a pen. The pen was cheap
Look at the sun.  -> 태양은 언제나 하나뿐이다. (the moon, the sky, the world...)

-한번에 알 수 있는 것
Turn off the light (of this room)
I'd like to speak to the manager(of this store)

-악기(musical instruments)
the piano, the trumpet, the guitar...

-같은 것(same)
You and I are the same age.
We have the same problem.

-방향, 방위
in the middle, on the top, on the bottom, the north, the west
My house is at the end of this block.

-공공 건물, 공공 서비스 등을 이용하는 곳.
the bank, the hospital, the airport

-특정 장소에 가야만 할 수 있는 것.
go to the movies, go to the theater, go to the doctor, go to the dentist.

-물 이름
the ocean, the pacific, the Amazon river, the Panama canal, the Mediterranean, the atlantic
*예외 : lake(호수) 에는 the를 붙이지 않는다. lake Biwa-비파호

-나라의 타입, 공식적 타이틀
The United Kingdom(the UK), The Republic of Korea(the ROK), The United States of America(the USA)
복수형(Plural)으로 된 나라 이름
the Netherlands 네덜란드 : 여러개의 땅이 모여 나라를 이룸
the Philippines 필리핀 : 여러개의 섬이 모여 나라를 이룸

-군도, 산맥
the Canary Islands 카나리 제도, the Marshall Islands 마샬 군도, the Alps 알프스산맥, the Himalayas 히말라야 산맥,  the Andes 안데스 산맥

-호텔, 레스토랑, 극장, 박물관, 기념물, 신문, 잡지, 가문 이름
the Plaza(hotel), the Cheesecake factory(restaurant), the Cineplex(theater), the Mertopolitan(museum), the Lincoln Memorial,
the Times(magazine), the Simpsons(family),

-the...of...
The great wall of China 만리장성, The tower of Seoul, The University of Michigan, University of California at Los Angeles(the UCLA)
*예외 : 일반적인 대학이름에는 the를 붙이지 않는다. Harverd University

-라디오 : 특정한 전파를 잡는다는 개념
He's never listened to the radio



3. a,an/the 를 쓰지 않는 경우

-셀 수 없는 명사, 불가산 명사(Uncountable noun)

-복수형 명사 (Plural noun) 

-어떤 개념을 총칭하는, 행위를 얘기할 때
work : go to work, I'm in work -> '일 하는' 행위
school, college : I'm in college, My brother started school. '학업'의 의미
prison, jail : He's in jail now '수감'의 의미
church : we usually go to church on sunday '예배드리다, 기도하다'의 의미
bed : I have to go to bed '잠을 자다'
home : I'm going home 건물이 아닌 '가정'의 의미

*물론 이것들을 단순히 '건물, 장소'의 의미로 쓸 때는 the 를 붙일 수 있다.
I went the prison for the prisoner interview 죄수들의 인터뷰를 하러 교도소에 갔다왔다. (수감의 뜻이 아닌 장소를 방문했다는 것)

-일반적인 의미로 사용(general idea)
music, weather, exams, meat, letters, sports, physics
I love music - I love the music that you made

-사람 이름, 땅 이름(지명, 장소, 동네)
Seoul is my hometown, Times Square is in NY, Where is Compton?, Where is main street?
*예외 : the dessert 사막은 the를 붙인다. The Sahara 

-television, TV
What's on television tonight?
